Fulham has impressed this campaign, going up to the ninth place at the table with 48 points after 33 games.
A key figure in its success has been Iwobi, which is delivering its best professional season so far. The 28 -year -old has contributed directly to 15 goals, scoring nine times and providing six assists in all competitions.
In statements to Fulham Fan News, the former Arsenal star shared that there was a great interest in Nottingham Forest before his transfer to Craven Cottage.
He explained that Forest’s manager at that time approached him personally, and his defender of Super Eagles, Ola Aina, also made efforts to convince him.
“There was interest; the main interest came from Nottingham Forest,” Iwobi said, according to Fulham Fan News.
“The manager at that time called me, and he asked me what I was thinking of joining. Ten minutes later, Ola (Aina) called me, and says: ‘Alex, you come to Nottingham Forest; the manager simply called me and said, he persuads Alex'”.
However, despite the interest, Nottingham Forest did not follow up with an official offer, and Fulham took the opportunity.
“I could have been linking to Ola, but finally they did not make an offer, and only Fulham did it, so it was.”
If the move had materialized, Iwobi would have met with his childhood friend and his international teammate Ola Aina in City Ground. However, he still enjoys the company of a compatriot in Fulham in Calvin Bassey.
Looking back, Iwobi’s decision to join Fulham has proven to be a master blow. Under the guide of Marco Silva, a coach who understands and maximizes his strengths. Iwobi has flourished in a key figure in the heart of the Fulham field.
With some remaining games, the star of Super Eagles will aim to maintain its impressive shape as Fulham continues its impulse by an end of half.
