A statement from the National Police Public Relations Officer in the state said that the victims were traveling on a new motorbike to Tudun Wada, Zaria to visit their sick uncle when they were mistaken for thieves by the crowd.
The statement said despite the two men pleading and explaining that they were not criminals, they were allegedly attacked and killed by the mob.
Police said six suspects have been arrested for the murder.
According to the statement, following reports of the incident, officers from the Birnin Yero Police Division launched an investigation and arrested six suspects in connection with the unlawful killing.
The suspects have reportedly confessed to the crime and are currently in police custody, while efforts to arrest others involved in the incident are underway.
Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Rabiu Muhammad, condemned the attack, describing it as unacceptable and warning residents against taking the law into their own hands.
CP promises that all people found responsible, regardless of status, will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He reminded the public that no one has the authority to act as an investigator or judge, and emphasized that every accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court.
