Kano Governor Yusuf submits additional budget of N99 billion to House of Representatives

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, has presented the 2024 State Supplementary/Amended Budget of N99,221,503,569.90, to the House of Representatives to cover wages and other projects introduced by his administration.

The request, contained in a letter read by the Speaker of the House, His Honor Ismail Falgore in a plenary session on Tuesday, urged members of the House to consider passing the supplementary budget quickly.

Falgore stated that the governor, in seeking the approval of the House of Representatives, was pursuant to Section 122(A and B) of the 1999 constitution to expedite and implement priority projects aimed at improving the welfare of the citizens in the state.

He also noted that, from the Supplementary Budget, N33,761,174,555.64 had been allocated for personnel costs, N34,492,888,103.44 for overhead costs and N30,969,440,940.80 for capital expenditure.

State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono, who spoke to reporters shortly after the letter was submitted to the House of Representatives, said:

“The initial state budget for 2024 is N437,338,312,787. If the initial budget is combined with the supplementary budget passed into law, the 2024 budget will be N536,559,816,357.84.”

Shanono reiterated the government’s commitment to focus on infrastructure development, human resource development, improving health and the education sector, Shanono emphasized that the additional budget will also include the payment of new minimum wages, among others.
