Kremlin says Russia restarts diesel exports after Trump deal

The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian diesel had begun reaching global markets after a deal with US President Donald Trump.
Trump said last week that Russia agreed to supply diesel to global markets to lower fuel prices, while Moscow partially lifted a ban on diesel exports from October 10 after the deal.
“Diesel has started to reach global markets and it is expected to have a positive effect on stabilizing oil markets, although it will not be enough to stabilize them,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in a daily conference call.
LSEG data on Wednesday showed Russia resumed diesel export cargoes from the Baltic port of Primorsk.
According to shipping data, a tanker carrying approximately 40,000 tons of ultra-low sulfur diesel was loaded on October 13 and was heading to Morocco.
Trump is intent on lowering diesel prices in the United States ahead of the US midterm elections on November 3.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, European officials and some of Trump’s fellow Republican politicians have strongly criticized the deal.
Russia has dismissed European criticism of the diesel deal as “cynical” as Europe continues to buy Russian oil and liquefied natural gas.
Trump said Friday that Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tons (2.25 million barrels) of diesel to U.S. and global markets.
That’s less than the daily supply for the U.S. transportation sector alone, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, which shows daily usage of about 2.94 million barrels.
Trump also said Russia would provide another 500,000 tons in November and another million tons “immediately thereafter,” which is less than four days’ worth of U.S. freight demand.
