Malami vowed to appeal the decision to confiscate 48 of his properties

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, says he will challenge the Federal High Court decision ordering the final confiscation of 48 properties linked to him.

In a statement issued by the Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami said that he respectfully disagrees with aspects of the judgment and has directed his legal team to immediately appeal to the Court of Appeal.

He stressed that the ruling does not represent a final decision on the matter, and emphasized that the appeals process is in place to ensure that legal issues are reviewed thoroughly.

Malami reaffirmed his commitment to the supremacy of law, the Constitution and the independence of the judiciary, and expressed confidence that justice will be served in the appellate courts.

He also urged the public and media not to draw premature conclusions while the appeal process is underway, remembering that every citizen has the constitutional right to seek legal compensation.

He further appealed to his supporters to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding while allowing the legal process to run its course fully.

His appeal follows a ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, where Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for final confiscation of the property.

The court stated that Malami and the other plaintiffs failed to prove that the assets were lawfully acquired, and determined that they had not dispelled a reasonable suspicion that the property was the result of unlawful activity.
