The forum of the Governors of the North States described the devastating flood that hit the area of the local government of Mokwa in the state of the Niger as a national tragedy that requires urgent and coordinated actions.

The Governor of the State of Gombe, Muhammado Inuwa Yahaya, expressed deep pain for the tragic accidents and has extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and the people of the state of the Niger for catastrophic floods.
Daily Trust reports that the disaster, triggered by torrential rains, has caused over 100 lives, has left many other missing and thinned thousands of residents.
It has been reported that the flood also destroyed hundreds of houses, agricultural land and public critical infrastructures, leaving entire communities to despair.
Governor Yahaya described the scale of destruction as a heartbreaking and urged all parties interested in intensifying efforts in bringing immediate relief and long -term recovery in the affected areas.
He praised the rapid response of the government of the State of the Niger under the guidance of the governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, as well as the efforts of the emergency management agencies that work tirelessly to provide humanitarian aid and restore the order.
“This tragic event highlights the growing threat of climate -induced catastrophes and the urgent need for sustainable strategies for controlling floods and resilience throughout northern Nigeria,” he said.
The Governor has promised support for the victims and government of the State of Niger, asking for well -intentioned individuals, business organizations and development partners to join the rescue and recovery efforts.
“While we cry with the families in mourning and are in solidarity with the displaced people, we are ready to work with the state of the Niger in taking decisive measures to ensure that these disasters are better mitigated in the future,” he added.
