The government of the state of Niger has announced a vast reform of cattle trade, revealing plans to stop the direct transport of cows and goats lives to the markets in the states of Lagos and Ogun.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has made this known to the First Bank 2025 Agric and Export Expo in Lagos, stating that from now on, the animals will be massacred and processed in Mokwa before being packaged and delivered as frozen products to the south -ovest.
According to him, the initiative will improve hygiene, reduce waste and allow farmers to derive more value in the entire cattle chain.
Bago revealed that the State had already obtained an acquisition agreement of $ 100 million with the Saudi bank of export and import to provide livestock products developed in the Middle East.
He also revealed the plans to collaborate with Lagos State on cold chain truck powered by GNL to modernize the distribution of the meat.
The governor stressed that the reform would improve the quality of the meat, would create jobs in the processing and increased the efforts of Nigeria for economic diversification away from oil.
