Nigeria imports 20.3 billion liters of petrol by 2023 – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Tuesday Nigeria imported 20.3 billion liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol in 2023.

The NBS stated this in its Petroleum Products Distribution Statistics for 2023 released in Abuja.

The bureau added that this figure was 13.77 percent lower compared to 23.5 billion liters in 2022.

He added that the country imported 4.94 billion liters of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) also known as diesel during the period.

The report said: “This represents an increase of 23.66 percent compared to the 4.00 billion liters recorded in 2022.

“PMS truck output reached 20.22 billion liters in 2023, showing a decline of 16.96 percent when compared to 24.35 billion liters recorded in 2022.”

NBS revealed that 69.71 million liters of Household Kerosene (HHK) was produced locally in 2023 compared to 44.68 million liters in 2022.

“The figure shows a growth rate of 56.02 percent during the period.” That concludes.
