Nigeria extended its dominance in the women’s 4x100m relay after winning a fourth consecutive gold medal at the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships on Friday.

The Nigerian quartet of Rosemary Chigozie, Jennifer Chukwuka Obi, Rosemary Chukwuma and Miracle Ezechukwu ran a championship record and season best of 42.94 seconds at the University of Ghana Stadium to become the first team in the history of the championships to run under 43 seconds.

Liberia finished second in 43.05 seconds to claim silver, while hosts Ghana settled for bronze in 44.85 seconds.

Chukwuma, who won silver in the women’s 100 meters earlier in the championships, put together a strong third leg before handing control to 17-year-old Miracle Ezechukwu, who sealed the victory for the Nigerian team.

Nigeria has won the women’s 4x100m title in four consecutive editions after victories in Asaba 2018, Mauritius 2022, Douala 2024 and now Accra 2026, remaining undefeated in the event since 2016.
