Nigerians have united in praying for Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, following a life -threatening injury he suffered after colliding with the goalpost in the EPL match against Leicester City on Sunday.
The striker suffered a broken intestine after colliding with a pole when chasing the ball and after receiving long treatment, trying to play even in clear discomfort.
The 27 -year -old player was rushed to the hospital on Monday night after further investigation by Forest medical staff revealed how serious the condition was and needed an urgent abdominal surgery on Tuesday which forced the doctor to place him in a coma that was induced after an emergency abdominal surgery.
A statement by the club on Tuesday night confirmed that “Awoniyi recovered well from a serious stomach injury suffered against Leicester City on May 11, 2025.”
“He underwent an urgent operation and was supported by his family and club.
“The club can confirm Taiwo Awoniyi has undergone an urgent operation after an stomach injury suffered during the Sunday match against Leicester City.
“Everyone in Nottingham Forest sent their best hope to Taiwo. The club will provide further updates if necessary,” added the statement.
However, Awoniyi’s injury, a united Nigerian football lover who has been brought to social media to pray for his fast recovery with many people who offer sincere prayers and good hopes for soccer stars.
Others also blame the match officials for not stopping their steps earlier before giving a signal to offside after Awoniyi collided with that position, while some blamed his club officials for not changing the striker after he suffered an injury.
