Nigeria’s headline inflation rate rose to 15.38 percent in March.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealed this in its Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Inflation Report March 2026, released on Wednesday in Abuja.
The agency stated that the general inflation rate in March showed an increase of 0.32 percent compared to the general inflation rate in February of 15.06 percent.
The report said: “On a year-on-year basis, the headline inflation rate in March 2026 stood at 15.38 percent, as compared to 15.06 percent and 27.35 percent recorded in February 2026 and March 2025, respectively.”
Furthermore, the NBS said on a monthly basis, the general inflation rate in March 2026 was 4.18 percent, 2.17 percent higher than the level recorded in February 2026 of 2.01 percent.

“This means that in March 2026, the rate of increase in the average price level will be higher than the rate of increase in the average price level in February 2026,” he said.
It was said that the three main contributors to year-on-year general inflation were food and non-alcoholic beverages at 5.55 percent, restaurants and accommodation services at 3.26 percent, and transportation at 1.80 percent.
