NIS: Captain Joseph Yobo Enrols ex Super Eagles

The former captain of Super Eagles, Joseph Yobo, announced his decision to return to school, enrolling in the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Lagos to pursue a certification in the sports administration.

Yobo revealed his motivation as he addressed the members of the NIS consultative committee, led by the general manager Philip Shaibu, who visited his class during an inspection tour of the Institute on Monday.

The tour of the Committee covered key structures including hostels, library, gyms, offices and conference room of the 51 -year institution.

Speaking as a sport management student, Yobo underlined the importance of acquiring formal training to integrate his experience as a player and coach.

“From my background as a former player and coach, I want to have the experience and certification necessary in the management of sport and administration. I believe that, as a sporty person, there is no too small knowledge. I have to expand my mentality from the school,” said Yobo.

Other students also shared their reasons for enrollment in NIS.

Inhabitun Ajayi expressed its commitment to revitalize basic volleyball, in particular in secondary schools, while Akpan Charity of the Cross State Sports Commission has highlighted the importance of formal certification in his search for a career in sports management.

“I have a certain rudimentary knowledge of kickboxing, but I wish to have the necessary certification, which required my desire to come to Nis,” said Charity.

Another student, Ariyo Olayiwola, observed that he joined the Institute to acquire in -depth knowledge of sport management beyond understanding at the surface level.

In response to the concerns about the need for practical learning experiences, DG Philip Shaibu has assured that the Institute would have given priority to practical training as part of his curriculum going on.
