Nursing student beheaded in Imo, police arrest one suspect

The Imo State police command says they have arrested one suspect in an effort to unravel the circumstances surrounding the murder and beheading of a student of the Faculty of Nursing, Umulogho, in Obowo Local Government Area of ​​Imo State.

The student, Wendy Achumba, who was said to have completed her midwifery education but was only undergoing basic training, was murdered in her apartment on Thursday by the suspected killer.

According to reports, the deceased hailed from Isiala-Ngwa in Abia State.

The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, who confirmed the development in a statement on Friday, said the police had launched a manhunt for the killers.

“The Command is aware of the tragic incident involving the death of a student of the Faculty of Nursing, Umulogho, whose body was found in a private apartment outside her campus,” Okoye said.

Okoye further said that following the report, the DPO and officers immediately visited the scene of the incident for an on-site inspection, following which the body was removed and deposited at the mortuary.

According to him, while investigations have begun to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and arrest those responsible, one suspect has been arrested and is currently undergoing initial questioning.

“The Command therefore appeals to students and the public to remain calm, ensure that the situation is under control and every effort is made to ensure that those behind the act are brought to justice,” the statement added.
