The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) for what it described as the “peaceful conduct and youth-friendly nature” of its primary elections.
The Chairman of NYCN in Imo, Comrade Humphrey Osuji, said this while speaking with journalists in Owerri on Friday.
Osuji commended the APC in Imo for conducting the primary elections in a manner that left the youths of the state with hope of fair representation and a vibrant political future.
He hailed the emergence of youth as flag bearers of different positions and urged the voting public to seriously consider giving youth a chance at political power.
“ We note with pride and satisfaction the emergence of Chukwudi Anyanwuocha, a young, educated and competent lawyer as the APC flagbearer for the Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
“This achievement confirms the growing recognition that young people are not simply future leaders but capable leaders of today, and we pledge our support to them.
“We observe that his appearance has generated genuine enthusiasm among young people across the constituency, many of whom now see in his candidacy a rare and direct interest in the political process,” he said.
He warned against any move to reverse the result, warning that this could not only breach the public peace, but also deeply demoralize young people in the constituency, fracture party cohesion at the grassroots and put the party at serious risk of losing its seat in the general election.
He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to peaceful, legitimate and constructive political engagement, calling on all interested parties to do the same.
