In a thrilling rescheduled match in Aba on Wednesday, Enyimba secured a 2-1 win against Bendel Insurance, breaking a 15-year home jinx.
Goals from Joseph Atule and Chijioke Mbaoma marked Enyimba’s first victory over Insurance since 2008, propelling them to consecutive wins in the current NPFL season.
The deadlock was broken in the 70th minute when Atule scored for the hosts, but they faced a setback as Ismail Sarki equalized five minutes later.
Notably, Bendel Insurance goalkeeper Amas Obasogie, making a return to the team, provided an assist with a long ball that Sarki skillfully lobbed over Enyimba’s goalkeeper, Ani Ozoemena.
However, Chijioke Mbaoma secured the victory for the People’s Elephant with just ten minutes to the end of game.
This crucial win elevates Enyimba to the 14th position on the league table, moving them out of the relegation zone with 11 points from eight matches.
Meanwhile, Bendel Insurance maintains their position in sixth place with 13 points.
