A schoolteacher who allegedly whipped a child to death in Anambra has reported to the police

A schoolteacher wanted by the police in Anambra State for allegedly caning a 12-year-old primary school pupil to death has surrendered to the state Police Command.

The suspect is known as Mrs. Dim Ebere, 47 years old.

Mrs Ebere was said to have surrendered at the Neni Divisional Police Station in Anaocha Local Government Area of ​​the state.

He was later transferred to the State Police Command headquarters in Awka, the state capital, to conclude investigations into the case.

Police had previously launched a manhunt for the teacher after she disappeared after learning that the child had died.

The Head of Police Public Relations (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed on Saturday afternoon that the woman was now in the custody of the State Police Command.

He said, “Following sustained manhunt operations by the Anambra State Police Command Safe Schools Protection Squad, in collaboration with officers from the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters, and sustained engagement with stakeholders and community leaders in Adazi-Ani, the principal suspect, Mrs. Dim Ebere, aged 47, voluntarily appeared at the Neni Police Station.

“The suspect is currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, where ongoing investigations will be concluded.

“For this reason, the Command appreciates the cooperation of the Adazi-Ani community, traditional institutions and other stakeholders whose support contributed to the surrender of the suspect.”

Ikenga assured the families of the deceased and members of the public that the Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served.

“The command further urges the public to remain calm, refrain from taking matters into their own hands, and continue to provide useful information that will assist the ongoing investigation and other police efforts across the state,” it said.
