PDP Chieftain, Segun Showunmi, cries Buhari, greets his discipline, integrity

A stalwart of the Democratic Party of the Peoples (PDP), Otunba Segun Showunmi, expressed profound pain for the disappearance of the former president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as a man of rare integrity, military precision and austere discipline whose legacy will remain indelible in the anal of the history of Nigeria.

Buhari, who died in a London clinic at the age of 82, was head of the state of Nigeria from 1983 to 1985 and subsequently as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.

The news of his death triggered a wave of tribute at national level, with showunmi among the first political figures to praise praise in a moving tribute entitled “Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR), never Gaskiya has disappeared”.

Never Gaskiya, which means “man of truth” in Hausa, was the lasting nickname of Bohari, earned for his style of leadership without frills and reputation for personal honesty.

IN His tribute, Showunmi told both the personal and national memories of the deceased leader, referring to the struggle of Buhari against the revolt of Maitatsine, his military campaigns beyond the boundaries of Nigeria and the influence of his moral crusades, in particular the war against indiscipline.

“As a son of a soldier, Buhari was forever in my conscience,” wrote Showunmi. “From the pursuit of bandits in Chad to the Instillation of values in young boys like us, it has shaped a generation.”

Despite their political divergence – Showunmi remained in the PDP of the opposition while Buhari supported the ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGSS (APC) sentence – he said that his respect for the former military general never decreased.

“Even when I lost the political topic, I never lost my admiration for his character,” he said.

Reflecting on the controversial management of buhari of national disorders such as #endsar protests and growing insecurity, Showunmi observed that although its tactics were criticized, Bohari has always given priority to national stability.

“It may not have been ordered,” he said, “but losing the country because of the implosion was not allowed below him.”

He praised Buhari’s efforts to renew the Nigerian military, his social investment initiatives in favor of the poor and his constant refusal of corrupt enrichment, describing it as a leader without offshore reports, luxury buildings or oil blocks.

“Oh Buhari, why are you so different from everyone?” Showunmi asked in admiration, adding that Buhari managed a disciplined family and protected them from political interference.

The head of the PDP concluded his tribute with a prayer for the soul of Buhari and invited the Nigerians to reflect on the values he represented: discipline, simplicity and justice.

The condolences continued to pour Bohari’s widow, Aisha Buhari, his children and the people of Daura. The taxes also came from President Bola Tinubu, by the members of the National Assembly, from the Emir of Daura and the international allies.

Muhammado Buhari, GCFR, is remembered as an officer and gentleman, a leader who defines the era whose passage marks the closure of a consequential chapter in the history of Nigeria.
