Peter Obi has emerged as the sole presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 elections.
The party confirmed Obi’s candidature after he was selected by its 17-member selection committee on May 19. The committee was chaired by former Ebonyi State governor Sam Egwu.
The NDC said Obi was the only aspirant to purchase the presidential nomination form before the close of sales on May 19. The party has extended sales for other positions until May 26.
Obi arrived at the party headquarters in Abuja at around 6.45pm, accompanied by Senator Victor Umeh. He submitted the expression of interest and application forms via an assistant.
The 17-member committee, inaugurated on the same day, will also select candidates for governor, senatorial and House of Representatives seats. NDC National Secretary Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu said Egwu will serve as president, alongside NDC national legal adviser Barr. Reuben Egwuaba as Secretary.
