Peter Obi reduced the ‘unreasonable’ murder in northern Nigeria, labeling the violence of ‘leadership failure’

Peter Obi, a former Governor of the Candidate of the State President and Labor Party in the 2023 general election, has spoken against a new wave of violence in several parts of Northern Nigeria, calling the murder as a national tragedy and a failed reflection of failed leadership.

In a sincere message posted on the X grip (previously Twitter) on Wednesday, Obi condemned sustainable bloodshed in the states of Taraba, Benue, and Kogi. He described violence not only unreasonable but also as a moral crisis that had eroded the nation’s humanity.

“The news about the constant murder does not make sense that has gripped the Taraba, Benue, and Kogi in recent times very heartbreaking. Nigeria cannot continue like this,” Obi wrote. “This is not Nigeria that we deserve to get. We must end this bloodshed. We must reclaim our humanity.”

In his statement, Obi gave a condolence to the affected community and regretted the lack of decisive actions from the authorities. He stressed that sustainable violence was more than just a security interval, it reflects a deeper systemic failure.

“What we witness is not only violence. This is a failure of leadership and gaping wounds in the souls of our nation,” he said. “I grieve with people both from Taraba, Benue, and Kogi. I shared the sadness, and I felt their pain.”

Obi, known for his good government advocacy and the first policy of people, urged leaders at all levels to move beyond words and take concrete steps to protect life and restore peace. The message called for justice and the response was coordinated to stop the massacre.

“But I also raised my voice because of the silence in front of the horror like that was involvement,” he added. “We need urgent action, not rhetoric. We need justice, not a reason.”
