Police officer arrested for extorting motorists in Lagos

Nigerian police have confirmed the arrest of an officer caught on video extorting a motorist in Lagos State.

The police revealed this in a post shared on its X account, @PoliceNG_CRU, on Wednesday, noting that the case is under investigation.

According to the Police, the Lagos State Police Command will publish the full results of its findings as soon as investigations are completed.

This reaffirms Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu’s commitment to accountability and professionalism.

The development follows a video shared online by a motorcyclist identified by the handle @epiccycl, who accused the officer of harassment and extortion in the Idimu area of ​​Lagos.

In the video, the driver admitted that he was stopped by officers even though he had complete vehicle documents and was accused of having the color of his car mismatched.

He said the officer insisted the vehicle was gray, not ash as stated in the documents and threatened to arrest him over the matter.

The motorist further claimed that the officer initially asked for N30,000 to resolve the issue, which was later reduced to N10,000.

The incident has sparked reactions on social media, with many calling for disciplinary action against officers found guilty of misconduct.
