Police rescue seven trafficked persons, arrest 4 in Akwa Ibom

Police agents in Akwa Ibom have rescued seven victims of human trafficking and arrested four suspects in the state.

The victims were rescued during an operation along the Ikot Ekpene – Aba Road.

This was disclosed by the Spokesperson for the State Police Command, Timfon John, in a statement on Saturday in Uyo.

He said: ‘Acting on credible intelligence, officers quickly mobilized patrol teams for a coordinated stop and search operation along the Ikot Ekpene – Aba Road on Friday.

“During this operation, the suspected vehicle was intercepted and the four victims were immediately rescued, while the suspect who was carrying them was arrested and detained.

“Following reports that a vehicle was carrying young people suspected of being victims of human trafficking, our officers immediately moved to intercept it.”
