The Independent National Electoral Commission (INC) has announced a new wave of interest from political associations, revealing that it has received 12 new questions for registration as political parties, pushing the total number of requests to 122.
This development, contained in a Thursday declaration by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and President of Inc, Committee for the education of information and voters, underlines what seems to be an increase in political mobilization in view of future elections.
Starting from the last general elections, Iosc had declared that he had only 18 duly recorded political parties.
Olumekun revealed that the last lot of applications includes critical details such as the names and acronyms of the groups, their proposed addresses and lists of presidents and national interim secretaries. The information has been published on the INInc official website to ensure public access and transparency.
“The Commission is developing these applications in a transparent and equity to all candidates,” reads the declaration.
However, the INNC expressed concern for the internal inconsistencies between some of the application associations, noting that at least a group had to replace its provisional secretary following a defection of a rival faction.
“To facilitate the consideration of these questions, the Commission appeals to the associations to maintain the coherence of their leadership and the addresses proposed so that it is not any of their own actions to a delay to the timely consideration of their applications,” warned Olyumekun.
In a separate development, the Commission has issued additional regulations and guidelines to clarify the procedures for the revision of the electoral results in line with section 65 of the electoral law 2022.
Citing variable interpretations of the Section, OLMUMEKUN said that the INC has exercised its legal authority to issue a new document entitled N. 1 additional to the regulations and guidelines for the performance of elections 2022. The document exposes the procedures and timing for the revision of the electoral results and was made available publicly.
The increase in the applications of the political party, combined with the regulatory updates of the Inc, reports a season of growing political activity and an intense prepared for the next electoral cycles.
