President Biden withdraws from presidential race, endorses Kamala Harris

In a surprise announcement on Saturday, President Joe Biden declared his decision to withdraw from the presidential race, citing the best interests of his party and the country.

Biden, who has previously stated his intention to run for re-election, stressed that stepping down would allow him to focus fully on his duties as president for the remainder of his term.

“It has been my intention to seek reelection, but I believe that it is in the best interests of my party and my country that I step down and focus solely on fulfilling the duties of President for the remainder of my term,” Biden said in his official statement.

Biden acknowledged the challenges ahead and expressed his commitment to the responsibilities of his presidency, stating, “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and will focus my full energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Reflecting on his tenure, Biden highlighted his early decision in 2020 to select Kamala Harris as his Vice President, describing it as the best decision he ever made. He later announced his full support and endorsement of Harris as the Democratic Party’s nominee for the upcoming presidential election.

“Today I want to give my full support and endorsement to Kamala to be our party’s nominee this year,” Biden said.

“Democrats — it’s time to unite and defeat Trump. Let’s do this.”

Biden’s withdrawal marks a significant shift in the political landscape ahead of the next presidential election, as Democrats are now set to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as their candidate. His decision to step down underscores his commitment to ensuring a united front against incumbent President Trump and Republicans in the upcoming election contest.
