President Bola Tinubu has signed the Salaries and Allowances of Judicial Officers Bill into law, providing for a 300% pay increase for judicial officers at the federal and state levels.
The move follows the National Assembly’s approval of the draft law in June.
According to Senator Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters in a statement on Tuesday, the new Act provides for increased salaries, allowances and fringe benefits for judicial officers and workers. The Act amends the Holders of Certain Political, Public and Judicial Offices (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) Act, No. 6, 2002, by deleting provisions relating to Holders of Judicial Offices.
Lado described the signing as a significant achievement, demonstrating the President’s commitment to the welfare of Nigeria’s workforce. He said the decision reflected Tinubu’s dedication to ensuring fair compensation for wage earners, especially those in critical roles.
According to him, among the salient features of the Act include, “Determination of salaries, allowances and other benefits for Court Officials.
“Amendment to Law Number 6 of 2002 concerning Certain Political, Public and Judicial Positions (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) (as amended) which regulates the elimination of provisions concerning Judicial Positions from the above Law.”
Lado said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCON has once again reiterated his steadfast commitment to the welfare of the country’s workforce by approving the revised Salaries and Allowances for Judicial Office Holders.
