PSG win back-to-back UCL titles…Arsenal’s long wait continues

Paris Saint-Germain defeated Arsenal in a tense penalty shootout to retain the UEFA Champions League on a night when history caught the attention of both teams.

After a cautious duel that ended 1-1 in regulation time, PSG triumphed 4-3 in the penalty shootout; Gabriel Magalhaes shoots over the crossbar in a decisive shot.

It took Arsenal 20 years to reach their second UCL final and they came out quickly when, after just six minutes, Kai Havertz smashed a fine strike into the roof of the net to give Mikel Arteta’s men the lead.

Throughout the season, the London club had carried as its hallmark that of a solid defensive unit, with pride, and it demonstrated it against the best offensive team in club football, depriving PSG of clear chances for more than an hour until the inevitable.

Cristhian Mosquera beat Kvicha Kvaratskhelia inside the area after the Georgian’s pass with Ousmane Dembélé caught the Arsenal defender on the wrong side as he tried to win the ball.

David Raya faced his first penalty of the match and could not prevent Dembélé from equalizing his team.

The match dragged on and both teams enjoyed periods of dominance, but in the end the match was decided on penalties after 120 minutes.

Eberechi Eze shot wide during the penalty shoot-out, but Raya stopped Nuno Mendes to keep Arsenal in the contest.

However, Gabriel Magalhaes failed to convert his shot and confirmed that PSG will successfully defend their title, becoming the ninth club to do so.
