
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LSTMA) has expressed deep sorrow over a tragic road accident on the Third Mainland Bridge that claimed the life of a police officer on Saturday.
The fatal accident occurred around Adekunle axis towards Iyana Oworo when the driver of a Lexus vehicle with registration number EPE 765 JN reportedly crashed into a police officer riding a Bajaj motorcycle while traffic officers were managing the movement of vehicles on the bridge.
A statement signed on Tuesday by Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Department of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, LASTMA, said the police officer died instantly at the scene, while the driver of the Lexus vehicle reportedly handed himself over to the Adekunle Police Division shortly after the accident.
“Following distress calls, LASTMA officials quickly arrived at the scene alongside officers from the Nigeria Police Force to initiate traffic control, emergency response and preliminary investigations into the accident”
“To prevent secondary accidents and ensure the safety of motorists, traffic cones and other precautionary devices were strategically placed around the affected section of the bridge while police officers carried out documentation and investigative procedures.
“Authorities also coordinated the evacuation of damaged vehicles to restore normal traffic flow along the corridor,” he said.
