The Chancellor of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (Nabteb), dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, said that enrollment in education and technical and professional training (Tevt) increased by 287.76%.
He said that while enrollment in the exam in technical colleges was 7,546 last year, the figure of 2025 was 29,260.
He said that the Minister of Education, Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa is guiding the new Tvet initiative in the educational system in a revolutionary way.
He also stated that Nabteb released the results of the National Common Entrele Examination (Ncee) of 2025 with 9,389 candidates who marked over 50 % and over 24,074 who participated.
Mohammed made the dissemination in Benin during the release of the results, the selection and positioning of students in federal technical colleges.
The exam, conducted nationally on June 14, 2025, in 32 federal technical colleges and 171 state technicians, had a total of 29,260 registered candidates.
He said that the exam indicated that the total registration reached 29,260, of which 24,074 candidates participated in the admission exam.
He said: “This cohort included 16,206 males, which represented 67.32 percent and 7,868 females, representing 32.68 percent. In the meantime, 5,186 people were absent, which constitute 17.72 %.
“In comparison, the registration figure for the 2024 common admission exam was located at 7,546 including 5,197 males (68.87 percent) and 2,349 females (31.13 percent).
“The disparity of registration between the years 2024 and 2025 amounts to 21,714 which reflect a significant increase of 287.76%. This substantial increase in registrations is attributed to the technical and professional initiative (Tevt) led by the Minister of Education within the education sector.
“Further analysis of the candidates indicate that they enrolled in 17 engineering operations, 7 construction operations, 8 crafts and 4 commercial operations. The statistics also revealed that 32 FTC and 171 state technicians have recorded candidates in various exchanges”.
“I would like to recognize the precious contributions of the honorable minister of education, Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa and the honorable Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suaiba said Ahmad, for the new Tvet initiative in the educational system, which is completely designed to enhance the young Nigerians necessary for the victim work necessary for the use of earnings and the companies invented.

Mohammed gave the analysis of the results.
He said: “The results of the candidates in federal and state technical universities revealed that of the 24,074 candidates who participated in the exam, 9,389, which represent 39.00 percent, reached scores of 50 % and higher.
“316 candidates representing the scores reached by 1.31 percent of 70 % and higher, while 14,685 candidates who make up 61.00 percent obtained a score of less than 50 %. In addition, the results indicated that 8 candidates representing 0.03 percent have reached the highest degree”.
The head of Nabteb underlined the importance of identifying and admitting students who are more suitable for benefiting from training offers in federal technical colleges.
He also highlighted the challenges that could be responsible for the low enrollment in the Ncee.
According to him, the challenges include; Inadequacy of qualified and expert teachers in which these operations exist, influence the parent/peer group, an inadequate number of professional centers and skills in the 774 areas of the local government in the country, inadequate equipment to manage some operations in colleges e
Apathy by candidates for certain operations.
On the way to go, he said: “To achieve the aspiration of Nigeria to become one of the 20 best industrialized nations in the world in terms of technological progress, collective efforts are needed to integrate the agenda of the renewed hope of the president of the president of facing the urgent question of the low enrollment in Tvet”.
