SCORENigeria Top 5: Sadiq Umar enjoys the best week of his life

Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar enjoyed a very rewarding last week on and off the field, scoring two important goals in a row to give Valencia four valuable points as they battle to escape relegation from the Spanish La Liga. And then his club, Ranchers Bees, won promotion to the top-tier NPFL.

5.Moses Usor

The promising winger was right in the big win in Hartberg and now has 13 goals and five assists for Austrian club LASK this season. The daring winger has shown that he is a great threat on the counterattack, also armed with a shooting bullet. This is certainly a player who deserves a look from the Super Eagles after having proven his consistency over the years in the Austrian Bundesliga.

4.Taiwo Awoniyi

He came off the bench again to make an impact as Nottingham Forest eased their relegation fears with a 5-0 thrashing of local team Sunderland. He provided an assist in this hugely significant road win that has more or less taken them to safety in the Premier League. The striker has once again shown that he is a Premier League player, although he was no longer in favor at Forest.

3.Afeez Aremu

The defensive midfielder scored his first goal for Aberdeen to beat Kilmarnock in the Scottish Relegation Playoffs. He got on the scoreboard after just 51 seconds and that effort proved to be the biggest difference between the two teams that day.

2.Victor Osimhen

The Super Eagles’ star striker once again rose to the occasion when he opened the scoring in the ‘Intercontinental Derby’ against bitter rivals Fenerbache. It was his 13th goal in Super Lig and his 20th goal in all competitions this season. It was also a fitting response from Osimhen to the mind games that preceded this crucial derby after Fenerbache requested the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) to disqualify the striker from the match due to the protective device he had to wear on his arm after surgery last month. His first goal in front of the home fans inspired a 3-0 humiliation of Fenerbache and Galatasaray now need just a point on Saturday at Samsunspor to win their fourth consecutive Super Lig crown.

Osimhen – The complete humiliation of Fenerbache

1.Sadiq Umar

The striker was Nigeria’s most outstanding player last week. In midweek, he scored the equalizing goal to salvage a valuable point in Mallorca as Valencia struggled to stay top in the Spanish La Liga. And then at the weekend he scored again in a 2-1 home win over Girona to move five points clear of the relegation zone. The icing on the cake for Sadiq in this very satisfying week is that local club Ranchers Bees, of which he is a co-owner, gained promotion to Nigeria’s top flight after more than 25 years in the wilderness. I couldn’t wait for better days.
