The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State on Saturday accused the state government of arresting the allocation intended for the local council in the state.
Chairperson of SDP in the state, Mr. Gbenga Akinbuli, in a statement in Akure, described the practice as a violation of a bright -fisted federalism and democratic principles.
He said the action had seized the local resource council needed for health, education, infrastructure and security care.
The chairman accused that the funds, which were constitutionally determined for the development of grassroots and service provision, were diverted by the state government.
Accounts said: “We have credible information that the federal allocation intended for local governments is collected by the state government.
“This revelation raises serious concerns about fiscal federalism, local autonomy, and the principles of democracy.”

He warned that collections that violated the law must stop, adding that the state government must prioritize transparency and accountability in the management of local government funds.
The Chairperson of SDP, therefore, demanded that the federal allocation in the future be disbursed directly to the local council without interference to enable them to function independently and effectively.
“People deserve a better government.
“It’s time for the state government to uphold the constitution and respect the rights of local authorities to govern the benefit of their community,” he added.
Akinbuli, therefore, called for the Attorney General Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), regarding the problem.
