Seven people have been charged over the alleged attack at Kano market

Police on Wednesday arraigned seven suspects at the Kano District Court in Nomansland for allegedly attacking traders at the Central Agricultural Market in the state.

The suspects attacked the entourage of a prominent politician, AA Zaura, in the April 28 attack.

Police officers arrested five suspects in the incident.

Spokesman of the state police command, Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, who disclosed this to journalists in Kano, said the suspects were arraigned on five counts of criminal conspiracy, inciting riot, joining an unlawful assembly, arming with deadly weapons and mischief.

He revealed that five suspects had been arrested previously and following a covert and intelligence-led investigation, officers arrested two additional suspects.

He said property, including a Toyota Ambulance vehicle and a tricycle were destroyed in the attack.
