Seven prisoners in the center of custody of the medium security of ISI, Osun State, fled after a strong downpour the perimeter wall of the aging of the structure collapsed.
The Nigerian corrective service (NCOS) said that the violation, triggered by a structural failure during the storm, occurred on Tuesday at about 2:00 am.
This is coming less than a year, after 281 prisoners flew from the center of custody of the average security of Maiduguri, in the state of Borno, following strong floods that collapsed the wall of the custody center.
At the beginning of April 24, 2024, rain times hit the state of the Niger, where 119 prisoners flew from the Suleja Medium Security prison after the walls yield.
The NCOS spokesman, Umar Abubakar, said that the authorities launched a manhunt to regain the fugitives. The general corrections controller, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has ordered an immediate investigation on the accident.
He said: “The Nigerian correction service launched a vast hunt following the rainfall that violated the safety of its structure at the center of custody of medium safety, ISI, Osun State.
“The strength Majeure that occurred at about 0200 hours on Tuesday 20 May 2025 led to the escape of seven (7) detainees.
“Following the accident, the general corrections controller (CGC), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape.
“The service is working closely with twin safety agencies and community leaders to regain the fugitives and bring them back into custody.
“However, the service urges the cooperation and support of the public in providing information that can lead to the reconquest of the Escape prisoners.
