The Prime Minister of the Biafran Government in Exile (BRGIE), Simon Ekpa, claims that more than 50 million people voted in a recent referendum to determine whether they wanted self-determination for the Biafran people.
Ekpa, who posted the claim on his X account on Tuesday, said the way Biafrans around the world embraced the e-voting process and physical voting during the referendum, showed their enthusiasm for liberation and breaking away from Nigeria.
He further stated that the number of Biafrans who voted for self-determination in the last eight months surpassed the number of voters in the 2023 Nigerian presidential election which was 25,286,616 million.
“It is worth noting that the physical ballot sample of the Biafra Independent Referendum has recorded over 50 million votes, double the result of the general election,” wrote Finland-based Ekpa.
“50 million votes were officially recorded and registered in the 40 States of Biafra.
“We’re going to make it happen! Tell your kids this is how we did it. Let the historians do their thing,” he said.
He added that marginalization, underdevelopment, insecurity, attacks on Christians and poverty in the South-East and South-South were some of the main reasons put forward by communities to justify their own referendum.
