SKF claims el-Rufai’s influence in the emergence of ADC governorship candidate

The Southern Kaduna Political Forum (SKF) has alleged undue political influence by former governor Mallam Nasir el-Rufai in the emergence of Isa Ashiru Kudan and Irimiya Kantiyok as governorship candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State.

The forum made its position known at a press conference held on Monday at the Epitome Event Centre, Barnawa, Kaduna.

Addressing journalists, the convener of the forum, Comrade Boniface Ishaku Kambai, said developments within the Kaduna ADC have strengthened the perception that the immediate past governor continues to exert “overbearing influence” on the party’s decision-making in the state.

He said the selection of the deputy governorship candidate did not emerge from extensive consultation with stakeholders, community leaders, youth groups and other political actors in Southern Kaduna.

“It reflects the preference of some individuals, a development that falls short of democratic values ​​of consultation, inclusiveness and collective participation. Accordingly, we reject the nomination in its entirety,” Kambai said.

The forum also expressed concern that major decisions within the ADC branch in Kaduna State are increasingly dictated by a narrow political circle associated with el-Rufai, rather than through transparent and democratic internal party processes.

Kambai said a significant number of stakeholders and youths across Southern Kaduna have reservations about Hon’s appointment. Kantiyok.
