Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday challenged a lawsuit seeking to bar him from contesting the 2027 presidential election.
A lawyer, Johnmary Jideobi, has approached the Federal High Court, Abuja, to stop Jonathan from running for the country’s presidency in 2027 after taking the oath of office twice in the past.
Jonathan, in the initial objection filed by his lawyer, Chief Chris Uche (SAN), against Jideobi’s summons, prayed Justice Peter Lifu to dismiss the suit for lack of jurisdiction.

According to the former President, the lawsuit is purely speculative, based on conjecture, premature, and based on media speculation, because there was no nomination, no election, and no reason to take action.
“The court does not have jurisdiction to answer hypothetical constitutional questions.
“The lawsuit is a gross abuse of the court process, aimed at obtaining a preemptive political decision.

the defendant is just a mere jurisdictional gimmick,” he said.
Jonathan said that the issues raised had been legally resolved through a decision of the Federal High Court, Yenagoa.
Therefore, the former President sought an order to dismiss the lawsuit for lack of jurisdiction and a gross violation of court process.
