Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (Nupeng) has directed its members to stop loading petroleum products from Monday.
This is caused by the management of dangote refineries for alleged anti-employment practices which are considered as antimal for the survival of Nupeng members under the branch of oil and tanker drivers.
In a statement, together -the same time signed on Friday by President Nupeng, Williams Akporeha, and Secretary General, Afolabi Olawale, the union expressed a strong objection to the position of the Dangote Refinery Chairperson, Aliko Dangote, that the driver recruited for operations permitted by the trucks permitted by the Gas Natural Gas (CNG).
The Uni described the position taken by the management of the dangote refinery as an insult to the rights of associations, guaranteed based on the 1999 constitution, and violations of relevant international labor laws that were signed by Nigeria.
The latest disputes are expected to cause other fuel crises in the country.
The statement reads: “We call Nigeria Midstream & Hilstream Petrolyum Authority, Authority, in short, to ask for its strength based on Section 32 (U) & (AA) from the Oil Industry Law (PIA).
“Under these two provisions, authorities are empowered to promote competition and private sector participation in central and downstream oil operations.
“Authority has the responsibility to identify, investigate, and prevent abuse of dominant positions and business practices that limit in middle and downstream oil operations.
“Nigeria is a member of the international community and a member of the international labor organization. Nigeria has ratified the Convention No. 87 of 1948, the Association of Freedom and Protection of the right to organize, 1948.

“This convention has been ratified by Nigeria, as far as 17 October 1960. Under the convention, workers have the right to join the trade union of their choice, for the protection of their employment rights and trade unions, and without previous authorization of any employer or authority.
“Indeed, based on section 254C (2) Nigerian Constitution, the ratified ILO convention is a constitutional provision.
“Therefore, any practice or policy by any employer seeks to seize workers from association rights is an insult to the constitution.
“With this statement, we called for the Federal Nigerian government and its agents, including segments that were well intended from the Nigerian community, to call two trillions of entrepreneurs to be ordered.
“They must be told to comply with Nigeria’s law. If they survive in their anti-compatible tyranny, Nupeng is determined and ready to mobilize their troops to fight in a legal framework.”
