The Court adjourns the Ogvananu-Nwobodo property dispute case to October 21

The legal dispute between businessman Dr. Basil Kechukwu Oguanu and Mrs. Patricia Nwobodo, wife of a former governor of Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo, has been adjourned to October 21, 2026, following fresh legal motions filed by the parties.

The case, which came before the Enugu State High Court on Friday, was adjourned to allow the plaintiff to respond to preliminary objections raised by the defence.

The dispute centered on a transaction involving lots R/18 to R/21 in Independence Layout, Enugu, which Ogguanu claimed to have acquired legally from Chief Jim Nwobodo, developed but later said he faced opposition after Mrs Nwobodo allegedly ordered the demolition of structures on the property and instead offered to refund his money.

Nwobodo, however, in case no. E/244/2025, accused Ogvananu of orchestrating a physical attack against her through individuals she described as his associates.

He further stated that the accident led to his medical treatment and therefore he is seeking ₦1.025 billion in damages, of which ₦20 million is for medical expenses, ₦1 billion as aggravated damages and ₦5 million as damages and general costs.

In response, Ogvananu filed a separate action in Case No. E/328/2026, asking the court to declare that he is the rightful owner of the disputed property, to award damages in his favor and to prevent the defendants from interfering with his possession of the land.

Speaking after the proceedings, Ogvananu’s lawyer, Mr Onyechi Araka, said the defendants appeared and filed defense briefs, along with preliminary notices of objection contesting the suit.

The court therefore adjourned the matter to allow the plaintiff to respond to the objections before determining whether the case on the merits should proceed.
