The driver who was sentenced to death as a benne border of the Benue -Cross river that had just turned deadly

Tensions for land disputes that have long existed between the community in Benue and the Cross River state have flared up once again, resulting in the tragic death of a commercial driver, Adure Iorkyaa Talengge, which was pelted by Batu to death in the City of Obudu by the alleged youth from the Abonkip community.

Talenge, who came from Mbanyam in the Ward of the Mbatyough Vandeikya LGA council, the state of Benue, was reported on a routine journey to give Waybill in Obudu when he was attacked and killed. This incident is the latest consequence of the ongoing land conflict between the Mbazarem community in the state of Benue and the Abonkip community at the Cross River, which was revived on Friday, July 18, 2025.

The Chairperson of the Vandeikya Regional Government Area, Dennis Guda, confirmed the escalation of hostility and detailed the steps taken to withstand violence. In a statement issued on Sunday by his aide, Gbaa Nguuma, Guda told a narrow shot out of the shot during the peace maintenance operation.

“On Friday morning, July 18, 2025, a report emerged from the Mbazarem community about new shots that were allegedly coming from the Abonkip side from the disputed border,” the statement began.

“In a quick response, Hon. Guda mobilized local security clothing Ibuam Nyor, along with other security personnel, and proceeded to the disputed area for the mission of finding facts and peacekeepers.

“Upon arrival, the chairman and his team confirmed that the shot was fired. By disturbing, the chairman himself had a shot towards him.”

According to Guda, the destruction of agricultural land that extends from the Mbazarem population is proven – a clear retaliation by Abonkip youth, who claimed their own agriculture had been destroyed before.

“Apart from the danger, he moved across the area, where he observed the destruction of large -scale plants worth millions of naira on the mbazarem side, the attack of retaliation by Abonkip youth who claimed their own agricultural land was previously destroyed.”

The next day, the tension spilled into the Obudu municipality, where the report emerged from the armed Abonkip youth who targeted the TV population from the benue. Guda said many students and traders were attacked, encouraging a large rescue mission.

“In the tragic change of events, violence spilled from the forest to the city of Obudu. Abonkip youth reportedly began to attack the Tiv population from the benue,” the statement continued.

“Armed groups are seen paraded on Obudu’s paths, targeting Indigenes, many of them are students in the Federal College of Education (who run the title program) and School of Nursing, as well as traders and business people.”

With the support of the security forces, the Chairman of Vandeikya led the night rescue operation, personally oversees the evacuation of the Indigenes bent – including many who have protected at the Obudu Central Police Station.

“In response, the Chairman of the Guda boldly leads the rescue mission supported by security to Obudu. He oversees the evacuation of the Indigenes benue, students and others, many of whom have sought protection at the Obudu Central Police Station.

“Evacuation efforts lasted until the night of July 18 until the evening of July 19, 2025.”

To prevent retaliation, Guda also facilitated safe returns from the Obudu population who lived in vandeikya volatile areas, handing them to security officials at Cross River.

“To prevent violence, the chairman also regulates safe returns from the indigenous people who live in vandeikya volatile areas, handing it over to DPO Obudu.”

Tragically, drivers who cannot be saved.

“Unfortunately, it has been confirmed that Adure Iorkyaa Talengge, a commercial driver who rained down the Obudu -Gbaboko route, was hung by Abonkip youth in the Obudu municipal.

“He went to deliver Waybill from Gboko when he was attacked and killed in cold blood.”

Guda called on calm and revealed that discussions with his cross river colleagues had taken place to reduce tension and restore order.

The Benue State Police Command, through a spokesman for DSP Udeme Edet, confirmed that the two local government chairmen had met to overcome the crisis.

“Yes, I realize that the chairman of the two regional government regions has met and completed the crisis,” Edet said.
