As the fulfillment of his commitment to deepen the democratic participation and expand access to the dividends of democracy, the government of the state of Ogun has appointed 1,200 political assistants to serve as agents of change and improve civic commitment throughout the state.
By announcing the initiative in a declaration, the special consultant in the media and the strategy to the governor Dapo Inhabitun, Hon. Kayode Akinmade described the move as a strategic effort to strengthen democratic governance in all corners and the cracks of the state.
According to him, the assistants – five for each of the 236 departments in the state of Ogun – will guarantee greater local participation in governance, effectively filling the gap between the base and the state government.
“The political assistants just appointed are to support the delivery of democratic dividends, articulate the needs of the respective departments and communicate these needs to the state government. It is also expected that they provide accurate feedback from the government to the departments and vice versa,” he said.
