The Nasarawa LP faction distributed governor and senator office forms free of charge to candidates

Nasarawa State Branch
The Labor Party faction loyal to Julius Abure in Nasarawa State has granted freedom of expression and nomination forms to interested candidates in the 2027 elections.

The forms distributed include forms for expression of interest and candidacy for Governor, Senator, DPR and DPR.

This was revealed by the General Chairman of the Labor Party in the state, Alexander Ombugu, during a press conference at the party secretariat in Lafia, Friday.

According to him, the party under the Julius Abure camp decided to provide free forms to prospective candidates as a way to cushion the impact of the economic difficulties that befell them.

He shared that this gesture is also a way to give prospective candidates the opportunity to compete for various positions of choice, regardless of their current financial status.

Ombugu noted that as the actual Chairman of the state LP, it is important to field candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections despite the leadership dispute involving Julius Abure and Senator Nenadi Usman.

He said, “I have a mandate that has been given to us, a mandate to fill out our candidates and we are doing our best to do what the national chairman tells us. So with me, I will provide these forms for free to all our candidates without them having to pay a penny.

“We are aware that many political parties charge higher prices on their expression of interest and candidacy forms. But the Labor Party belongs to the people. It is our party, that’s why our logo has a picture of Papa, Mama and Pikin.

“Therefore, as the people’s party, we have decided to issue this form free of charge to all interested candidates under the party platform.”

Therefore, Ombugu calls on politicians who have proven integrity to immediately collect the form as soon as possible, so that it can be filled and submitted within the time specified by INEC.

He further revealed that the primaries for the party will take place from May 27 to 29, while assuring that the process will be credible and rancor-free.

“May 27 is the primary election for Governor and House of Representatives, while May 29 is the primary election for Senate and House of Representatives,” he said.

Speaking on the upcoming By-Election in Nasarawa North Senatorial District scheduled for June 20, 2026 by the Independent National Electoral Commission, Ombugu noted that May 25 has been fixed as the party’s primary election to produce candidates for the zone.

“Due to the death of our brother Senator Godiya Akwashiki, INEC announced that there will be a by-election in the zone. Therefore, on the 25th of this month, we will conduct a primary election in the Nasarawa North Senatorial District to get candidates to contest the senatorial election on the 20th of June,” he explained.

The Labor Party remains divided following a protracted leadership dispute between the faction led by Julius Abure and those loyal to former Finance Minister, Senator Nenadi Usman.

Despite the internal crisis, both factions are continuing their political activities and preparations for the 2027 elections across the country.
