The Nigerian Revenue Service (NRS) has dismissed an infographic claiming the Federal Government has introduced a new vehicle tax effective July 1.
The NRS clarification was made in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Mr. Dare Adekambi, Special Advisor to NRS chairman, Dr. Zach Adedeji.
According to Adekambi, the infographic directs private, commercial and corporate vehicle owners to pay unstated vehicle tax rates online or at approved banks and institutions.
He said the material, which has no identifiable author, further asked members of the public to visit http://www.firs.gov.ng for more information, while the correct official NRS website is http://www.nrs.gov.ng.

Adekanmbi said the federal government had not imposed any new taxes on vehicles as claimed in the material.
He advised the public to trust and only rely on information disseminated through official government channels or verified government institutions and not on anonymous images circulating online.
“NRS would like to state unequivocally that the information does not originate from any government service or agency.
“Therefore, the public is advised to ignore false messages designed to mislead the public and rely more on official government channels to obtain information regarding government policies,” he said.
He advised Nigerians to follow the official account of NRS on all social media platforms and its website to be properly informed about its taxes and activities.
