The Senate gives the ultimatum to 10 days nnpcl Gcece to respond to Quer …

The Senate Public Council Committee issued a 10 -day ultimatum at the National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), CEO of the Nigerian group, Bayo Ojulari, to answer 11 critical financial questions relating to discrepancies in its controlled budgets, warning that compromising failure could attract serious constitutional consequences.

The Committee, chaired by Senator Aliyu Wadada, had expressed dissatisfaction for what he described as financial and unacceptable irregularities, discovered in the books of NNPCL, including over 200 trillions of Naira in unpublished credits and legal expenses and audits without audit that embrace the years 2017 at 2023.

The Ultimatum, which will expire on 10 July, arrives after NNPCL on Thursday has formally requested a two -month extension to answer the questions, a request that the committee has categorically rejected.

Wadada said: “It is unacceptable. We gave them 10 working days. This committee will not tolerate the tactics of delay in issues relating to public funds”.

The legislator warned that in the event that the head of the NNPCL did not respond, the Senate would be forced to invoke his constitutional supervision powers.

“Any attempt to ignore the directive of this committee is equivalent to the contempt of the Senate. We are here to protect public funds and we will not be discouraged,” he said.

He also complained about the absence of NNPCL external auditors at the hearing, underlining the need for transparency and responsibility.

The session was attended by representatives of the Commission for economic and financial crimes (EFCC), Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (Nfiu), the Department of Services of States (DSS) and other key interested parties that served as witnesses of the procedure. (TV channels)
