A crowd in the community of Iguomon, located on the outskirts of Benin City, in the state of Edo, on Monday, stripped a man who believes herself was a shepherd and a naked married woman for accusations of infidelity.
In a video that has since become viral on social media, the angry young people have been seen dragging the duo by a private residence, accusing them of engaging in an illegal relationship.
The man, who is said to be a shepherd whose identity remains unknown at the time of the press, was completely stripped and forced to sit on the naked floor.
The eyewitnesses referred to the platform Times that the woman, also not identified, had been involved in a secret relationship with the shepherd for some time before being captured in the act.
The crowd, including some women, humiliated the couple, with a female member of the group, according to what reported the command to strip the woman. The spectators filmed the show, while a large crowd gathered on the scene, some encouraging and put open -mouthed to the victims.
Reacting to the accident, the human rights activist based in Edo and converse of Parliament Talakawa, Marxist Kola Edokpayi, sentenced the action of the crowd. He described the act as jungle and urged the communities to refrain from taking the law in their hands.
“We condemn the jungle justice in its entirety,” said Edokpayi in a note. “What happened in Iguomon cannot be justified.
The right thing would have been to report the question to the police for investigations due and legitimate actions. “
He warned that the justice of the crowd often leads to non -intentional victims and undermines the rule of law.
At the time of submitting this report, the Edo State Police Command has not yet issued an official statement on the accident. The efforts to contact the leaders of the community in Iguomon for further comments were not successful.
The accident aroused conflicting reactions online, with many who ask for the arrest and pursuit of those involved in public humiliation. Others argue that reflects by deepening the moral and social tensions within the state communities.
