The government of Santa Lucia conferred its highest national honor to President Bola Tinubu with the title of knight commander of the Order of Santa Lucia (Kcosl).
The government of the country announced it on Monday in a post on X.
“The Government of Santa Lucia is pleased to announce that the Governor General has conferred the title of Knight Commander of the Order of Santa Lucia (Kcosl) on He Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, recited the tweet.
Tinubu had previously faced a joint session of the Senate and the Chamber of the Saint Lucia Assembly, promising that his government would have expanded bilateral relations between Nigeria and Santa Lucia.
He said: “My visit to Santa Lucia is in line with the ideal of building the bridge between Africa and the Caribbean and the creation of a path to deepen the economic ties and encourage mutual cooperation. Also reflects our desire as people to make prosperity, sustainable development and strengthen family ties.
“Nigeria and the island of Santa Lucia are bound by history, culture and common aspirations. Our administration is determined to cultivate and expand bilateral relationships on trade, investment, tourism, education and cultural exchanges, as well as to improve consular services for citizens of both nations.”
In a declaration, the Sania Lucia government declared its willingness to formalize diplomatic relations with Nigeria, adding that the country would establish a visa exemption agreement with Nigeria.
“Saint Lucia and the Federal Republic of Nigeria will establish a renunciation agreement for the owners of diplomatic and official passports of the ECS Member States.
“Nigeria will provide scholarships to citizens of the ECS member countries and extend the services of the body of Nigerian technical aid (CT) to the countries of the OCS,” said the country.
