The story will judge you on the streets, the lawyer warns inhabitun after a downpour

Legal practice and citizen worried about the state of Ogun, Abdulbasit Abolade Shuaib, once again launched alarm on the deplorable state of the roads of Abokuta, warning the governor Dapo Inhabitun that history would not forget his management of the crisis of his administration.

Tuesday Shuaib, in an open letter to the governor, said that the last downpour exposed the “painful negligence and the worsening of the conditions of the roads” through the capital of the state of Ogun, leaving the commuters blocked and damaged vehicles.

Last week the lawyer had asked for the declaration of a state of emergency on the roads of Abokuta, due to the dilapidated state of the roads in the state capital.

In the last letter, he complained “Ibara’s crossing towards the Omida market, Iyana Mortavey towards Leme, Ijaiye and Isale Ake were strongly flooded due to the absence of a correct drainage to channel water. The situation has become harmful to vehicles and pedestrians”.

He has listed other areas devastated by floods to include Asero, AdaTa-Lavaggio, Somorin, Aloogi, Eleweran up to Osiele, Saje Junction, Elega Junction, Ajitadun and Obada, describing them as “symbols of abandonment, pain and daily frustration for residents”.

The legal professional observed that beyond the inconvenience, the poor road network had imposed enormous economic and safety charges to the people.

“The owners of vehicles are spending excessively in repairs, small businesses are suffering and more worrying is the risk that these roads represent public safety,” he underlined.

While recognizing the governor’s efforts in some sectors, Shuaib urged him to take immediate and extraordinary measures to save road infrastructures in the state capital.

“Your excellence, we recognize your efforts and the weight of responsibility on the shoulders. But we also ask you to listen to this cry from the ground.

“The people of the state of Ogun deserves accessible roads, motor and safe not only in theory, but in reality,” he appealed.

The lawyer asked for the immediate declaration of a state of emergency on the roads of Abokuta, starting from the most affected routes, warning that silence was no longer an option.

“This is not a political appeal. It is humanitarian. Your inheritance as governor will be modeled by how these concerns are faced. People are looking at and the story is taking notes,” he said.
