The Nigerian Customs Service has announced the deployment of Comptroller Joe Anani as the new Controller for Tincan Island Port Command Apapa Lagos.
He replaces former Customs Area Comptroller, Frank Onyeka who was promoted to Assistant Comptroller General of Customs and reassigned to Customs Headquarters in Abuja.
This was stated in a press release given to journalists at the weekend in Lagos by Command Public Relations Officer Oscar Ivara, chief controller of Customs.
In his farewell speech at the handover ceremony, ACG Onyeka expressed his thanks to the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, as well as other officials, stakeholders and government agencies for their support during his tenure.
ACG Onyeka described his experience at the Command as a valuable experience marked by significant achievements in revenue generation, trade facilitation, anti-smuggling operations and stakeholder engagement.

He further stated that the Command generated revenue of over N1.6 trillion in the 2025 fiscal year, surpassing its target, while over N401 billion was collected in the first quarter of 2026.
He also highlighted major successes in the fight against smuggling, including the interception of illegal drugs and prohibited items worth over N35 billion.
The former Tincan Customs boss, who moved to Headquarters as ACG in charge of the Human Resources Department (HRD), further noted that the Command, under his watch, invested substantially in capacity building programs for officers, enhanced collaboration with stakeholders, and implemented welfare support initiatives through the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA).
Speaking further, ACG Onyeka expressed confidence in Comptroller Anani’s leadership capacity even as he urged officials, stakeholders and the entire trade community to extend their utmost cooperation to the new Comptroller to sustain the progress of the Command.
In his acceptance speech, Comptroller Anani also thanked the Comptroller General of Customs, Adeniyi, and the leadership of the Service for the trust reposed in him.
He commended ACG Onyeka for the achievements recorded during his tenure, particularly in revenue generation, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations, and promised to consolidate on the successes already recorded.
Comptroller Anani assured officials, stakeholders and similar institutions of his commitment to professionalism, transparency, discipline and efficient service delivery, reaffirming his administration’s open door policy and calling for continued synergy among all stakeholders to enhance national security and facilitate legitimate trade.
The ceremony was attended by senior Customs officials, representatives of similar institutions, and stakeholders in the maritime sector.
