Tinubu celebrated the rescue of 21 kidnap victims, and vowed to hunt down the Kogi kidnappers

President Bola Tinubu welcomed the successful rescue of 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps and six other Nigerians kidnapped by criminal elements in Kogi State, and stated that security agencies would continue to pursue those behind the crime.

The president announced on Monday that 21 victims regained their freedom after a coordinated search and rescue operation involving security agencies and local residents.

The rescued victims, consisting of eight men and 13 women, have reportedly been freed from their kidnappers’ hideout in the forests of Ofu Local Government Area, Kogi State.

Expressing his delight at the outcome of the operation, Tinubu said, “I am happy to receive the news that fifteen members of the National Youth Service Corps and six other innocent and law-abiding Nigerians who were kidnapped last week in Kogi State by some criminal elements have regained their freedom.”

According to the President, the operation to rescue the victims involved a joint team consisting of the military, Nigerian Police, Department of State Services and local residents.

“A well-coordinated Search and Rescue (SAR) operation carried out by a combined team of military personnel, Nigerian Police, Department of State Services and local residents safely rescued twenty-one kidnap victims, consisting of eight males and thirteen females, from the kidnappers’ den in the forests of Ofu Local Government Area of ​​Kogi State this afternoon,” he said.

Tinubu revealed that the rescued Nigerians received appropriate medical care and attention before they were finally reunited with their families and loved ones.

However, he stressed that the success of the rescue operation does not mark the end of the security operation, as the fleeing kidnappers are still at large.

“Even though the abductees have been rescued safely, our valiant security forces are still pursuing the kidnappers, in line with my directive to continue suppressing all criminal elements,” he said.

The president promised that everyone involved in the kidnapping, including those who provided assistance to the criminals, would be brought to justice.

“Those responsible will face serious legal prosecution, and our security agencies will pursue all those who aided this crime.”

Reiterating his administration’s resolve to confront insecurity across the country, Tinubu said Nigerians must be able to move freely without having to live in fear of criminal attacks.

“My administration remains committed to ensuring that every Nigerian can travel across our country without fear,” Tinubu said.

The President commended the members of the joint security team for their bravery and commitment during the rescue operation, while acknowledging the patience shown by the families and loved ones of the abductees during the difficult time.

“I wholeheartedly commend the joint SAR team for their bravery and appreciate the families and loved ones of the abductees for their understanding during their loved ones’ ordeal,” he said.

Tinubu also sought to assure parents, guardians and relatives of National Youth Service Corps members that the Federal Government remains committed to protecting corps members and other Nigerians across the country.

“As I share the relief and joy of the parents and loved ones of those rescued, I would like to once again, assure the parents and loved ones of our dedicated corps members that my administration remains committed to ensuring the safety of their lives and property, as well as that of other Nigerians,” he said.

The President concluded his message by praising the efforts of Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies.
