Tinubu denied the blocking of political party registration, denied the accusation of one party

Football President Ahmed Tinubu has rejected the accusation that his government worked to prevent registration of new political parties in Nigeria or created a state of one party.

Overcoming sitting with the National Assembly on Thursday to commemorate Democracy Day, the President responded to public concerns and new media reports that show that the Federal Government has influenced the Independent National Election Commission (Inec) to limit political pluralism.

“I have never stopped registration of any political party,” Tinubu said firmly during his remarks. “There has been no direction from my administration to Inec to stop such a process.”

The President’s comments came in the midst of increasing criticism from opposition groups that accused all progressive in power (APC) of consolidating power and damaged Nigerian multi-party democracy.

“APC will be guilty of political malpractice if you close the door for those who are now trying to join the party,” he said. “We welcome all who share in our progressive ideals.”

Tinubu specifically recognizes and welcomes new defenders from Delta and Akwa Ibom who are new to APC. “You are all welcomed in a progressive forum,” he said, pulling the applause of members of the parliament and party loyalists who attended the session.
