President Bola Tinubu arrived in Vieux Fort, Santa Lucia, Saturday evening for the first stage of his two nations trip to the Caribbean and South America.

This is contained in a declaration issued by the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga and made available to journalists in Abuja.

According to Onanuga, upon arrival at Hewanorra international airport, the president received complete military honors and received by the Governor General of Santa Lucia, Cyril Charles and Prime Minister Philip Pierre.
He said the president will officially begin his state visit on Sunday with courtesy calls to both the Governor General and the Prime Minister.

“On Monday he will turn to a special joint session of the Senate and the Chamber of the Saint Lucia assembly.

“The address will be held at the William Jefferson Clinton dance hall, Sandals Grande, in Gros Islet,” he said

The President’s spokesman said that the event will be frequented by the heads of government of the organization of the Eastern Caribbean states (OEC) and the best officials of Santa Luciano.

Other participants will include members of the diplomatic body, the Nigerian community of Santa Lucia and the general manager of the OCS, dr. Didacus Jules.

Following the joint parliamentary session, the president Tinubu will host a high -level working lunch with the OCSS leader.

The discussions will focus on strengthening the links between Nigeria and the OEC, in particular in economic cooperation and cultural exchanges.

The Nigerian leader is also scheduled to visit the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries.

The visit aims to promote academic collaboration and strengthen the educational ties between Nigeria and Santa Lucia.

The president’s visit reflects Nigeria’s constant commitment to deepen the diplomatic and economic relations with the Nations of the Caribbean.

After concluding his commitments in Santa Lucia, President Tinubu will travel to Brazil for the Brics summit of 2025.

The summit will take place in Rio de Janeiro from 6 to 7 July.

The Nigerian leader is attending the Brics summit at the invitation of Brazilian President Lula da Silva, in recognition of the role of Nigeria as a “partner country”.

The 17th summit Brics will focus on “strengthening the global cooperation of the South for a more inclusive and sustainable governance”.

Discussions will give priority to two key areas: global cooperation collaborations of the South and Brics for social, economic and environmental development.
