President Bola Tinubu said on Wednesday that his administration is determined to transform Abuja into a model capital with rapid urban development.
Tinubu stated this in Abuja, Wednesday, when inaugurating the N5 Arterial Road (Obafemi Awolowo Way), starting from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III Section of Dape District.
The President, who was represented at the event by his deputy, Kashim Shettima, said the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) would develop into a capital that reflects Nigeria’s growing population, economic aspirations and national identity.
Tinubu noted that improving transport connectivity in Abuja is expected to reduce logistics costs, encourage investment and support job creation.
The President described infrastructure as a measure of national seriousness and state capacity.

He said his government would continue to invest in strategic projects that improve connectivity, support economic activity and restore public trust in government.
“Infrastructure is the measure by which every civilized country announces its seriousness.
“No capital can carry the burden of national ambition if its arteries are blocked by neglect, excuses and broken promises.
“We will never rest until we make the FCT not only a functional center of government, but also a worthy capital of our federation,” he added.
Tinubu noted that the road infrastructure inherited by his administration requires continued intervention.
He pointed out that his administration has maintained continuity in construction and rehabilitation efforts without interruption.
“There is no pause, no pause, and no setback in the construction and rehabilitation of our heritage roads.
“That is why we are ending the tradition of abandoned projects and restoring confidence in the power of government to finish what has been started,” stressed President Tinubu.
He said that the Dape District section of the N5 Arterial Road project was conceived, funded and completed under the current government.
He said the completion of this project represents a deliberate departure from a culture in which public infrastructure is trapped in protracted delays and repetitive budget cycles.
“Previously, projects like this were permanent budget items for 10 or 15 years. Under this government, that era is over,” he said.
He commended the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, for driving the implementation of infrastructure across the capital and commended the contractors for delivering results in line with expectations.
“The Honorable Minister has shown what happens when political will meets accountability.
“We fund projects to see results, not to hear explanations for their failure,” said the President.
