Tobi promises SEMS Olympics and better representation for student-athletes

AKURE, NigeriaFALAYE Oluwatobipopularly known as FAMEhas expressed his intention to organize the maiden School of Earth and Mineral Sciences (SEMS) Olympiads and improve representation of student-athletes in sports beyond football and basketball.

Tobi, who is running for the position of Sports Director for him Nigerian Association of Earth and Mineral Sciences Students (NAEMSS)revealed this in an interview with Sportxvibe.com.ng ahead of the elections scheduled for Thursday May 14.

“My aspiration is that male and female student-athletes have equality when it comes to sports, especially in track and field events,” he said.

He 200 level student of the Department of Geographic information and remote sensing systems (RSGIS) to the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) said his priority is to ensure that student-athletes involved in table tennis, chess, track and field and other sports have enough opportunities to showcase their talents.

“This will not be limited to those who play football and basketball alone, but also to those who know how to run, play table tennis, chess and other sports, so that they have the opportunity to show their skills,” he added.

He also pledged to ensure that no student-athlete is sidelined due to football’s dominance on campus.

“I want to make sure that students are not marginalized and that the focus is not only on football, which is the main sport of FUTA. We will try new things and there will be a SEMS Olympics“, said.
